In the ceramic industry, the raw materials are ground in the water but before the raw materials to be jiggered are used; their water content has to be reduced at a desired level. This is best achieved with a filter press. In this system, a special filter clothes are placed on plates with knurled surfaces. These plates are pressed together and by the help of rubber gaskets, they are sealed on each other.
The slurry is given with pressure, through the centre holes of plates onto the filtering clothes. The water in the raw material passes through the cloth. By regulating the pressure, and duration of filling, filter cakes are formed in required moisture and they are removed by separating the plates.
